The Hillsdale Group recently joined our initiatives. Hillsdale Group is in the process of providing the most critical component of Nepal's redevelopment effort: renewable energy, mainly hydroelectric. Hillsdale Group gives back to the community in the areas of health and education through the "Shangri-La Project" concept. The Shangri-La Project is an initiative of the Hillsdale Group, through which it is formulating plans to building University villages and allowing them to function as economic engines for local development. COMMITTED will be collaborating with the Hillsdale Group to carryout the University village concept along with COMMITTED's Sikchya Mero Adhikar (SMA) Campaign.
MetroStar has worked in partnership with COMMITTED since 2007 to provide quality education to underprivileged children of Nepal. In 2008 MetroStar provided $5,000 as grant money to assist COMMITTED in providing classroom lighting and other necessary renovation needs for Sri Raithane Secondary School located in Sindhupalchowk District, along the Tibetan Border.
The Western Union Foundation has been instrumental in COMMITTED’s efforts to rehabilitate the first all girls’ school of Nepal, Kanya Mandir School. With a grant award of $10,000 in 2007 we successfully implemented the Kanya Mandir Computer Literacy Project, by which we were able to build a fully functional computer lab for the school. In addition to the students, the nearby local community members are also benefitting from this project to learn basic computer skills after school hours.
In 2008, Rotary International provided a grant sum of approximately $8,000 to implement the Health and Sanitation Project for Kanya Mandir School. COMMITTED is building new toilets, renovating dilapidated toilets, providing a drinking water facility, and conducting health awareness classes.
Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, bookstore, fair trade market and gathering place where people can discuss issues of social justice and peace. Each Busboys and Poets location enhances the community by bringing together a diverse clientele reflective of the surrounding neighborhoods. In partnership with COMMITTED, Busboys is helping COMMITTED raise funds for the E-Pati project that seeks to provide one laptop per child in the rural areas of Nepal.
Based in downtown Washington DC, Basecamp provide publication and communication facilities to its DC customers. Basecamp has assisted COMMITTED in many occasions in meeting our publishing needs such as annual reports, brochures and flyers.
